چکیده

A case of vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE) colonisation is reported. The organism was not isolated from other patients sharing a room with the index case or from the environment. The microbiology laboratory plays an important role in the detection of VRE and in alerting the infection control, medical and nursing staff. Nosocomial transmission of VRE can be prevented by adherence to appropriate infection control procedures. The occurrence of VRE can be prevented by the appropriate use of vancomycin. Risk Factors of Rectal Colonization of Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci in Shiraz Namazi Hospital

Introduction: Risk factors for Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) colonization are patient-related factors such as underlying disease or amount of prescribed antibiotics, and hospital-related factors such as duration of hospitalization, type of performed therapeutic procedures, and antibiotic prescription. This nested case control study was performed to determine risk factors of rectal VRE ...

Molecular Analysis of vanHAX Element in Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci Isolated from Hospitalized Patients in Tehran

Background: Vancomycin (glycopeptide)-resistant enterococci (VRE or GRE) can cause serious problems for hospitalized patients due to the limited options for treatment of VRE infections. As infection with VRE increases in hospitals, further knowledge about vancomycin resistant genes is needed. Methods: Isolates of Enterococcus spp. were collected from hospitalized patients in Tehran (Iran) durin...

Antibiotic Susceptibility in Enterococci Isolated from Patients in Kerman, Southeastern Iran

Background: Enterococci faecalis are predominating species of Enterococci causing nosocomial infections. Acquisition of resistance to antibacterial agents, and ability to transfer the resistant genes made them clinically important. This study was performed to determine the frequency of isolation of different species of Enterococci, and the antibacterial resistance pattern of the isolated specie...

First report of the isolation of high-level vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium from a patient in Japan.

Multiple drug-resistant enterococci have become a significant cause of nosocomial infection (9, 11, 12). In particular, there are limited options for the treatment of enterococcal infection caused by high-level glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (9, 11). Infection or colonization by vancomycin-resistant enterococci was first reported in France (10) and the U.K. (14). Since then, vancomycin-resi...

Frequency of Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci isolated from clinical samples of Shahid Mohammadi hospital through the E-test method

Introduction: Enterococci are gram-positive coccoid bacteria that are present in the normal flora of the gastrointestinal tract in human, and many mammals and birds, as well as the environment. Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) are a major and rising problem in hospitals throughout the world. The present study aimed to investigate the frequency of strains of Enterococci and the pattern of ...
